During this one week workshop the participants will be introduced to the basics of textile and surface design.
I will demonstrate the possibilities of pattern design with demonstrative examples. I will explain the function of a knitting machine on a machine provided by myself.
The participants are free to use this machine to test their skills obtained during the course, which can result in accessories, clothing or other objects.
The target groups for this workshop are: students of art and design, teachers of art and handicraft majors, and interested adults of any background.
I am located in Austria, but offer to travel to U.S. to teach this course.

http://www.persche.comProgram Description: Course description: The objective of the course is to teach the basics of knitting design, and to inspire enthusiasm for knitting technique. The theoretical session covers the principles of knitting and operation of the flat bed knitting machine. The basics of textile design and pattern drafting will be taught, unless already known. Moreover, I will provide an introduction to the Designaknit computer programme.
In the practical session, participants will design their own patterns and execute them on the knitting machine as a two-colour jacquard weave. Participants will be encouraged to experiment playfully and creatively with yarns. The fabrics produced can be further processed in any technique.
Target group: Anyone interested in textiles, beginners in knitting, if possible with their own knitting machine
Requirements: Basic skills in handling textile materials; hand knitting skills and experience with machines (such as sewing machines) an advantage.
