ATOUT FIL 2009. Call for entries. Deadline December 15, 2008. This year’s theme is red. Open to all, this European event is dedicated to the creation of surprising, unclassifiable, multidisciplinary clothing. For information and registration, www.atoutfil.com.

LA ROBE DES NATIONS. Call for participation by Canadian artists. Deadline December 15, 2008. As part of the World Week for Cultural Diversity of UNESCO, May 15–22, 2009, artist Carole Simard-Laflamme will present La Robe Des Nations, a monumental installation made of fabric pieces at the Place du Louvre, Paris. The artist is asking for the participation of other artists in order to carry out this project and express the cultural and artistic diversity of Canada. Send her a small piece of clothing no longer used, preferably brightly colored, flowered, striped, or in the traditional fashion of your culture. Mail it in a standard 8½" by 11" envelope and indicate your name, cultural extraction, and discipline. Feel free to write two or three sentences explaining what that particular fabric represents to you. MODEPALAST 2009. Call for applications. Deadline December 31, 2008. Designers from all over the world may apply for trade fair stands at the sales exhibition MODEPALAST—brand new expo, April 23–26, 2009. ME IN 2D. Call for applications. Scholarships awarded. Deadline January 15, 2009. Open to students ages 13–18. Entries must be 8" x 10" on paper or illustration board, any two-dimensional medium, addressing notions of self portraiture. Scholarships will be awarded to Idyllwild Arts Academy. 1ST ANNUAL ROCKET CITY NATIONAL. Call for entries. Entry fee. Juried. Deadline March 1. Exhibit to be held at the Salmon Library Gallery at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Seeking 2- or 3-D original contemporary art by U.S. artists, no video or time based works. 2-D work must not exceed 48" in any direction; 3-D work must fit through a standard door. PFAFF ART EMBROIDERY CHALLENGE 2009. Call for entries. Juried. Deadline May 15, 2009. Entries must be created predominantly on a home sewing machine using either freehand embroidery, embroidery software, or a combination of the two and should address the theme of “Landscape—Let Us Travel.” Selected pieces will be on view at the 2009 London Knitting and Stitching Show.
